Understanding Skin Conditions

Everyone experiences skin issues from time to time — whether it’s a minor breakout, a small cut, or dry winter skin. In most cases, the skin heals naturally with a bit of care.

But chronic or inflammatory skin conditions are different. They can persist for months or even years, often flaring up unexpectedly and affecting not just appearance, but confidence and comfort too. These conditions may include eczema, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and slow-healing wounds.

Skin conditions aren’t just surface-deep — they can impact emotional well-being, sleep, social interactions, and quality of life. They may cause itching, burning, redness, discomfort, or visible scarring, leading to frustration and self-consciousness over time.

That’s why consistent, gentle support is so important.

Photizo Skincare uses advanced red and near-infrared light therapy to promote natural healing, calm inflammation, and support the skin’s own repair processes — helping you feel more comfortable in your skin.

HOW TO USE – PHOTIZO SKINCARE

A) Wounds

Photizo treatment is not a replacement for wound care or wound care products but serves as a complimentary treatment. Prescribed wound care products are crucial for the healing process. Please follow your health care practitioner's prescriptions.

1

TIMING OF TREATMENT

Give Photizo treatment when changing bandaging and after the wound has been cleaned, and before wound care products and bandaging are re‑applied. Debris and bandaging will block light penetration.

2

AREA TO TREAT

Treat the whole wound area as well as the surrounding tissues.

3

FREQUENCY

Ideally apply treatment two (2) to three (3) times a week, depending on the wound‑care regime.

4

WHEN DRESSINGS STAY ON

You may treat the areas surrounding the bandaging when the wound needs to be covered for more than three (3) days.

5

AVOID OVER‑TREATMENT

Do not exceed daily treatment for more than seven (7) days to prevent the possibility of inhibiting cell growth. Revert back to two (2) to three (3) times a week.

6

PROBE POSITION

Keep the probe as close as possible to the open wound without letting the probe touch it.

Treatment Guidelines

Frequency

2–3 times daily for acute conditions, once daily for maintenance.

Duration

16 seconds per treatment point, maximum 10 minutes total per session.

Results Timeline

Initial relief may be felt immediately, with continued improvement over 2–4 weeks.

Safety Notes

Do not look directly into the light. Not recommended during pregnancy.

Conditions & Treatment Areas

Photizo Skincare is CE approved for the treatment of wounds and is widely used to support a range of inflammatory and chronic skin conditions.

Wounds & Ulcers

  • Treat directly around wound edges, moving inward over sessions
  • Surrounding tissue to support circulation and repair
  • Venous and pressure ulcers: treat the wound bed and margins
  • Post-surgical incisions: treat before re-dressing
CE Approved

Acne & Breakouts

  • Directly over active breakouts and inflamed areas
  • Along the jawline, cheeks, and forehead
  • Post-breakout marks and areas of redness
  • Use after cleansing, before serums or moisturiser
Inflammatory

Eczema & Psoriasis

  • Directly over inflamed patches and plaques
  • Elbows, knees, and scalp for psoriasis flare-ups
  • Inner arms, wrists, and behind knees for eczema
  • Treat surrounding skin to reduce spreading irritation
Chronic

Scars & Recovery

  • Directly over forming scar tissue from 1–6 weeks post-injury
  • Post-surgical scars and C-section wounds
  • Along scar edges to improve elasticity and reduce pulling
  • Keloid-prone areas: treat consistently for best results
Regenerative

Rosacea & Sensitive Skin

  • Over areas of persistent redness and visible flushing
  • Cheeks, nose, and chin for rosacea flare-ups
  • Reactive or post-procedure skin needing calming
  • Dermatitis: treat over inflamed and reactive patches
Calming

Cracked Nipples & Wound Care

  • Directly over cracked or damaged nipple tissue
  • After feeds, before re-latching or applying creams
  • C-section wounds: treat around incision site post-op
  • Cold sores and surface ulcers: treat at onset of symptoms

The Research Behind It

Peer-reviewed evidence supporting photobiomodulation therapy for wound healing, skin repair and inflammatory skin conditions

Study 1

LED Irradiation Accelerates Wound Healing

Whelan et al., 2001 — Journal of Clinical Laser Medicine & Surgery
  • Tested LED light therapy on U.S. Navy personnel with acute lacerations and training injuries
  • Lacerations healed 50% faster in the LED group — 7 days vs approximately 14 days in controls
  • More than 40% greater improvement in musculoskeletal injuries compared to untreated controls
  • Results consistent across multiple wavelengths (670nm, 720nm, 880nm LED arrays)
Relevance to Photizo Skincare

This trial directly supports Photizo Skincare's CE-approved use for wound treatment, demonstrating measurably faster tissue repair with LED light therapy at comparable wavelengths.

Study 2

Red and Near-Infrared Light Improves Skin Condition and Collagen Density

Wunsch & Matuschka, 2014 — Photomedicine and Laser Surgery
  • Randomised, controlled trial involving 136 volunteers using red (611–650nm) and near-infrared (570–850nm) light
  • Significant improvement in skin complexion and skin texture in the treated group (P < 0.05)
  • Measurable increase in intradermal collagen density confirmed via ultrasound imaging
  • Significant reduction in skin roughness and fine lines compared to the untreated control side
Relevance to Photizo Skincare

This RCT used wavelengths closely matching Photizo Skincare's 633nm and 850nm output, confirming improved skin tone, collagen stimulation and surface repair — directly relevant to scar treatment, eczema and post-wound recovery.

Treatment Protocol

Consistency is what drives results. Follow the phase that matches your current skin condition or wound stage.

Phase Frequency Time Per Point Duration
Acute Once to twice daily 16 seconds First 3–5 days
Active Treatment Once daily 16 seconds Until clear improvement

i
Important Note Hold the probe as close as possible to the skin without touching open wounds. For wound treatment, do not exceed daily use for more than 7 consecutive days — revert to 2–3x per week to avoid inhibiting cell growth. Always apply treatment after cleaning the area and before re-dressing. Do not look directly into the light. Not recommended during pregnancy. For persistent or undiagnosed skin conditions, consult your GP or dermatologist.

“A game changer for my psoriasis.”

“Wrinkles around the eyes.”

I was very sceptical about the Photizo Blush but decided to use it every day for 12 weeks. After two weeks I could see a difference in my skin texture and the wrinkles around my eyes also softened and my pigmentation was lighter. I had some toothache during the time I used it for my skin, and it assisted with the pain as well.

“The photograph on the left shows my scar 2 weeks post-op when staples came out. The photograph on the right shows my scar 6 weeks post-op. I was not allowed to use any motions or potions until the surgeon gave the go-ahead at check-up. So, by only using my Photizo Sport it helped with my scar and swelling went down in just a few days, and no bruising given that I bruise very easily. It even helped with the allergic reaction I had from the plaster which was sorted out in about 3 days. The results were absolutely amazing.
