Red + near-infrared light
Photizo Vetcare delivers 633nm red and 850nm near-infrared light to the treatment area. These wavelengths are used in photobiomodulation, where light interacts with biological tissue and cellular processes involved in recovery.
31 seconds per area
One press delivers one pre-programmed 31-second dose. Move the device point by point across the treatment area, following the Photizo treatment guidance and your vet's advice.
Start gently, and watch
Begin with one treatment point and one 31-second dose. Watch your cat for the next few hours. If they seem unusually restless, sensitive to touch or unsettled, stop treatment and speak to your vet before using it again.
The silent version
The standard unit beeps at the start and end of each dose. A silent version is available with no beep, which suits cats who dislike sudden noise. Same device, same dose, same price.
What the research shows
What is and is not known about light therapy in cats
Cat-specific research is limited
Most veterinary photobiomodulation research has been carried out in dogs and horses. Cat-specific research remains limited, with much of the published evidence consisting of individual case reports rather than controlled clinical trials. That means we cannot assume that results seen in other species will apply in exactly the same way to cats.
A caution worth knowing
A 2025 case report described three elderly cats with osteoarthritis who became restless, flinched from touch and vocalised within three hours of laser treatment, settling within four to twelve hours. No burns were found. The authors suggested cats may be more sensitive than dogs and horses to skin overheating, and recommended closer monitoring after treatment.
That study used a 900nm veterinary laser with a different power, treatment duration and delivery method from Photizo Vetcare. Photizo uses 633nm and 850nm LEDs and delivers a fixed 31-second dose. The findings therefore cannot be transferred directly to Photizo, but they are a useful reason to introduce light therapy cautiously and observe your cat afterwards.

Is Photizo Vetcare suitable for cats?
Yes. Cats are specifically included among the species covered by Photizo Vetcare's instructions for use. However, cat-specific clinical research on photobiomodulation remains limited, so introduce treatment gently, follow the manufacturer's instructions and stop if your cat appears uncomfortable. Speak to your vet if you have any concerns.
My cat hates noise. Is there a quiet option?
Yes. The Silent version has no start-up or end-of-dose beep. It is the same device at the same price, and it suits cats who startle easily.
How will I know if my cat is uncomfortable?
Watch for restlessness, flinching from touch, changing position repeatedly, or unusual vocalising in the hours after treatment. Those are the signs reported in the feline case report we describe above. Stop treating and speak to your vet if you see them.
Does it replace my cat's medication?
No. Photizo Vetcare is intended to be used as part of a wider care plan. Never stop, reduce or change prescribed medication unless your vet advises you to do so.
How do I treat a cat that will not sit still?
Work with them rather than restraining them. Many owners treat while the cat is settled on a lap or in a favourite spot, doing one or two points at a time and coming back later rather than finishing in one go.
Are there situations to avoid?
The Photizo Vetcare instructions (VET-IFU-VER 4.0) state: do not use light therapy on any cancer or suspected cancerous mass; do not use on areas directly over a developing fetus in pregnancy; avoid looking directly at the light beam; and do not over-treat, as excessive daily use may over-stimulate and delay healing. The instructions also state that the device is an ancillary treatment used alongside veterinary care, and that you should not discontinue medications prescribed by your vet.
